Memphis police investigate two deadly shootings hours apart on Christmas

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis police are investigating two deadly shootings that happened hours apart on Christmas Day, leaving two men dead and neighbors shaken by violence on a day meant for family and togetherness.

The first shooting happened early Christmas morning at an Exxon gas station in the 4100 block of Kirby Parkway in the Hickory Hill area. Police said a 30-year-old man was shot and killed at the gas station and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Ja’Vontae Cooper shortly after 11 a.m. Christmas Day. He is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Investigators said they are still searching for a second suspect, they said is a juvenile…
