This Day in History: Giant Kris Kringle in Downtown Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On this day in history, Christmas Day, 1934, a giant Santa Claus watched over Court Square in Downtown Memphis.

The massive Kris Kringle stood somewhere between 25 and 50 feet tall, and was often referred to as the “world’s largest” Santa.

The statue came to life twice a day. Children could speak into a microphone and tell Santa their wish list, and then get a reply!…
