Man fires shots at passing car in Binghampton, killing driver, court records allege

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 36-year-old man arrested for murder earlier this month in Binghampton allegedly fired several shots at a passing car, killing the driver, court records show.

Courtney Douglas, of Memphis, was booked into the Shelby County jail Monday on charges of first-degree murder, according to his arrest affidavit.

Court documents indicate that it all started just before 11:30 p.m. Dec. 8, when officers responded to North Merton Street after a caller told police that a car had crashed into a parked vehicle. Officers arrived to find an “unresponsive” man inside the crashed car, records show.

The victim, identified in court documents as Christopher Carruthers, died on scene. Officers arrived to find five spent shell casings near Merton Street and Ogden Avenue and obtained footage from a traffic camera showing two people running from the intersection, records allege…
