MS woman accused of stealing over $20k in SNAP benefits

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A DeSoto County woman is accused of defrauding the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) of over $20,000 through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The Mississippi Department of Human Services said that Sharita Maria Jones was arrested a SNAP fraud investigation was conducted.

The dept. said that Jones received $20,028 in SNAP benefits because she did not report her household income and composition correctly.

MDHS said that the case was referred to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office, and they secured an indictment…
