Memphis representative files bill barring ICE from using schools, churches as staging areas

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A State representative from Memphis has filed a bill that would limit ICE agents’ access to schools and church properties.

House Bill 1482, filed by Representative Gabby Salinas (D-Memphis), would bar ICE from using school grounds and church properties as staging areas without first giving notice. HB1482 would also stop ICE from using lots or garages owned by the State.

The bill calls for state and local government entities to collaborate to “identify publicly-owned and controlled parking lots, vacant lots, and garages” that ICE has used or could use as staging areas…
