Olive Branch city employee honored with monthly Mayor’s Award for Excellence

OLIVE BRANCH — In recognition of her exceptional service and calming presence at City Hall, Gas Secretary Anita Hayes was presented with the city’s monthly Mayor’s Award during Tuesday night’s Board of Aldermen meeting.

The award, which includes a $250 cash prize, is unique in that it is funded entirely by private donations from local business leaders and community members rather than taxpayer dollars.

“Tax dollars are not used for this,” Mayor Ken Adams told the audience. “These are donations made by businesses and community-involved individuals to allow us to reward individuals who go above and beyond.”

The Mayor’s Award is a monthly tradition where city department heads submit recommendations for employees who exhibit extraordinary dedication. Adams noted that while choosing a winner each month is often difficult for the board due to the high caliber of city staff, Hayes’ “warm smile and welcoming presence” made her a standout candidate for this month’s selection…
