Parking company to pay millions for refunds, free parking program in settlement, AG says

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced a settlement with private parking company Metropolis Technologies on Monday after a multi-year investigation into “deceptive practices.”

As a result of the settlement, Metropolis will pay $8.75 million to cover consumer refunds, litigation costs, and fund a free parking program; they will also be required to make multiple changes to their business practices to protect consumers by making things more transparent, the Attorney General’s Office said.

According to the AG’s Office, the investigation began in 2024 after more than 100 people complained about “unclear pricing and inadequate signage” at Metropolis’ parking lots, in addition to misleading messages about violation notices and parking fees. The Attorney General’s Office said their investigation showed that Metropolis had been misleading patrons about their prices with inaccurate signs, charged surprise fees due to technology glitches, made the process of getting a refund “nearly impossible,” and created confusion by making their notices look like government bills…
