Task force arrests suspect in N. Highland Street apartment shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) said that its members arrested a man in connection with a shooting in the High Point Terrace area that happened Tuesday night.

Dontario Woody, 29, is charged with three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Officers say they were called to the Greenline Apartments in the 300 block of North Highland Street around 10:30 p.m.

Police say no one was injured, but four apartments had been hit by gunfire, and they found eight spent shell casings. Residents said they heard 20 to 30 shots.

“We hit the floor and we called 911. It was at least 20, 30 shots. It sounded like more than possibly one gun,” resident Lauren Giovannetti said. “Your kids are on the floor, and you’re yelling ‘duck’ to your children because you’re afraid of bullets going through the window. Yeah, you can’t go back to sleep after that.”…
