Charges upgraded for teen who shot older brother over food, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The teen accused of shooting his brother over food last month has had his charges upgraded, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Police told FOX13 on Tuesday morning that the 16-year-old boy accused of shooting his 20-year-old brother on December 21, 2025, is now charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was originally charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to a report, officers were called just before midnight for a domestic assault at the Legacy of Lynnfield Apartments near St. Francis Hospital. The brothers’ dad told officers that his sons were fighting over food, and he later heard a gunshot…
