Memphis Fire Department activating patient transportation protocol as winter storm continues

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Fire Department is reportedly activating a protocol to deal with the winter storm’s impact on response and transportation times.

The Memphis Fire Department says it is activating its EMS Surge Period. According to the fire department, during the EMS Surge Periods, stable patients will be taken to the closest and “most appropriate” hospital regardless of the patient’s preference.

The fire department says the protocol helps ensure that patients get timely care even during icy or hazardous travel conditions. MFD also says the protocol will keep ambulances available for life-threatening emergencies…
