As the winter storm leaves Memphis, leaving a trail of snow, ice and frigid temperatures in its wake, the City of Memphis expects major roads to clear in the coming days.
Back roads and neighborhoods — and roads that see lesser through-traffic — will take longer to thaw, but City Public Works Director Scott Morgan said in a Monday morning, Jan. 26, phone call, the “sun is our friend” as the city looks to return to normal.
“It’s hard to say,” Morgan said when asked when the roads might be drivable again. “I would think throughout the week and into the weekend, probably this weekend or early next week, you’ll see a lot of those neighborhood streets… that don’t have a lot of car traffic [start to melt]. It’s gonna take some time, so I’d say about a week would be my guess.”…
