Menagerie Farm arena caves in from heavy snow and ice

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Owners of Menagerie Farm in Collierville say they will rebuild after heavy snow and ice caused the roof of their 38,000 square foot arena to collapse.

Menagerie Farms said the Bigbee Steele Arena was built with adequate wind, snow, and ice capacity, but an estimated five inches of ice, or about 500 tons of ice, was too much for the structure.

“The steel beams did not bend, on the sides or the top. The building sat down in the middle,” said Menagerie Farm owners. “We are so thankful no one was hurt, and all the animals are perfect! This is a hard hit and a huge setback for us.”

Menagerie Farm, which offers everything from birthdays and field trips to summer day camps and family reunions at the property, said the building and contents are insured and that they are meeting with insurance adjusters and speaking with the building contractor to move forward as quickly as possible.

“We have waited to post bc so many of our friends and the posts we have seen people have lost lives, homes, businesses & pets. At the end of the day, we lost a building & some material things that can all be replaced. We will continue to keep those affected by the storm in our thoughts.”
