Beloved Memphis seafood restaurant to permanently close after 28 years

Beloved Memphis seafood restaurant Tsunami will permanently close, according to a social media post by owner and executive chef Ben Smith.

Since it first opened its doors in 1998 at 928 S. Cooper St., Tsunami has been a staple of the Cooper-Young neighborhood, but according to Smith, that hasn’t protected it from the same woes affecting much of the industry — rising costs and a gradual decrease in business.

“After much deep introspection… I’ve decided to close the restaurant permanently,” Smith said in a video message on social media. “While there were a thousand small reasons behind this decision, the overriding reason was just that I simply can’t afford to do this anymore.”…
