Shelby County Commission approves $500K federal fund to reimburse sheriff’s office for assisting Memphis Safe Task Force

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Commission approved $500,000 in federal funds on Monday to reimburse the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) assisting the Memphis Safe Task Force.

According to commission documents, the United States Marshals Service had awarded a supplemental grant to Shelby County on behalf of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office “in the amount of $529,027.00 for the purpose of reducing street and violent crime in Memphis…for the period of Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026.”

This year’s budget previously included only $268,973 for the grant. However, nine commissioners voted to amend the 2026 grant budget to include the $500,000 increase, making the total award amount $798,000…
