Driver falls asleep behind wheel before striking pole, flipping car, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A car flipped and took down a power pole during a crash early Tuesday morning in East Memphis.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), an overturned car was reported just before 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of South Highland Street and Norriswood Avenue. FOX13 arrived to find a flipped car next to a downed power pole.

In a report, the driver told investigators that he fell asleep behind the wheel while he was traveling on South Highland Street. The car then struck the power pole and overturned — damaging the pole “with wires hanging down,” police said…
