Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson dies at 84, had deep Memphis ties

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Rev. Jesse Jackson, a towering figure in the civil rights movement who worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and later founded the Rainbow Coalition, died at age 84.

Jackson had fought serious illness for more than 10 years, including Parkinson’s disease and supra-nuclear palsy, which sent him to the hospital in November of last year.

Jackson was at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis the day King was assassinated in 1968…
