Mother sentenced after pleading guilty to locking up 4-year-old son for months, DA says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County mother was sentenced to prison after she pleaded guilty to locking up her 4-year-old son inside a room for months, causing the child to become “critically ill” and “covered in feces,” the district attorney’s office said Tuesday.

According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Dajuanae Brown Thomas pleaded guilty to facilitation of aggravated child abuse of someone under age 8. She was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison, the office said.

In a news release, the DA’s office accused Thomas of keeping her son “in solation for nine months with the inside doorknob removed.” The child was later taken to a hospital, where he was found to be ill and covered in feces, the office said…
