Memphis woman pleads guilty to seeking more than $9 million in false tax credits

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis tax return preparer reportedly pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns on behalf of her clients.

The United States Attorney’s Office says 41-year-old Rebecca Gilley pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false tax return.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Gilley, who reportedly also went by Rebecca Green and Rebecca Maxwell, filed tax returns with false tax credits from 2018 through 2022. The false tax credits included education credits and sick and family leave credits…
