Crews battled 108-acre brush fire in Fayette Co.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fayette County Fire and Shelby Co. Fire Departments battled several brush fires on Friday and Saturday, including one that burned around 108 acres, as smoke moved through the area Sunday, officials say.

According to officials, Collierville Fire and Rescue received numerous calls reporting smoke visible throughout the community.

They say smoke is drifting into Collierville from fires in Fayette County in the area of I-269 and Macon Rd. Depending on wind direction and weather conditions, residents may notice a haze or the smell of smoke, say Collierville officials.

According to Fayette Co. Fire Department Chief Rich Hartfield, they’ve been dealing with numerous brush fires ranging from small fires to one that was about 108 acres.

“Our firefighters worked feverishly to get things under control with absolutely no loss of structures,” Hartfield said. “All were just brush fires that got away from the landowner. None that were under malicious intent.”…
