Ex-Millennia CEO buys $6.9M Florida mansion as conditions crumbled at Serenity

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Attorneys for the city and those representing Serenity are scheduled to go back to Shelby County Environmental Court on March 3. That’s where we could finally learn more about what’s next for Serenity Towers.

While its fate and future are still unclear, a more than six-month-long NewsChannel 3 Investigation reveals taxpayers have been footing a hefty bill for the now-empty high-rise, while the ex-executive of the company formerly in charge lived a multi-million dollar luxury lifestyle.

It’s not easy for 72-year-old Henry Smith to get around these days. He lives in an apartment complex in Orange Mound off Pendleton.

Smith told WREG, “Sidewalks ain’t worth a darn, cause I have to drive in the street, constantly dodge cars. You talkin’ about street potholes, they got sidewalk potholes down here!”That’s outside the apartments. Inside the complex, while we were visiting, with our cameras rolling, Smith nearly fell off his scooter trying to get up the ramp to his unit. Despite his current problems, Smith says he won’t complain because he’s dealt with worse.

“Better than down there. I’m just gonna put it like that. I’m so glad to get out, away from down there cause those people that wasn’t right. They still ain’t right,” said Smith…
