Memphis looking to permanently close hotel, citing criminal activity

The City of Memphis, in partnership with the Shelby County District Attorney’s office, is asking a court to permanently close a hotel it says has become a hotbed for crime and drug overdoses.

Lani Lester, the city’s anti-blight litigation manager and lead prosecutor, was in Shelby County Environmental Court March 3 to argue for a temporary closure of the Extended Stay Memphis hotel, located at 4300 American Way.

That same location was closed down in late 2024 after the DA’s office filed a nuisance complaint against it…
