Safety concerns over THP’s high-speed chase policies

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Since the inception of the Memphis Safe Task Force at the end of September, WREG reported on some of these chases ending in crashes involving the Tennessee Highway Patrol. But what’s the policy behind these pursuits? When do troopers decide to pursue a suspect or call off a chase?

WREG’s Shay Arthur has spent months pushing for these answers and shows the general public might never know.

During a high-speed chase in January on Interstate 240, troopers raced down the interstate pursuing a car believed to have been carjacked from a man just minutes before. The stolen vehicle was eventually recovered.

But we’re seeing some of these pursuits also end in crashes with innocent people caught in the chaos…
