NWS Memphis warns of damaging winds, possible EF-2 tornado tonight; uncertainty Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Memphis said damaging winds and a low risk of tornadoes are possible tonight, with any tornado capable of quickly intensifying to EF-2 strength.

Forecasters said the threat would come after dark and could occur while people are sleeping. The agency advised residents to have a way to receive warnings that will wake them if a warning is issued.

The service said greater uncertainty surrounds Wednesday’s setup because ongoing storms ahead of the frontal boundary could reduce how much instability remains.
