WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — The City of West Memphis officially broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art aquatic park Wednesday afternoon.
West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon, along with city council members and the parks commission, took part in the groundbreaking ceremony of the West Memphis Aquatic and Recreation Center at Tilden Rodgers Park.
The West Memphis Aquatic and Recreation Center will include an indoor aquatic center, indoor basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts, an indoor walking track, fitness and workout rooms, community rooms, party rooms, and meeting space.

Mayor McClendon said the $34 million project represents a significant investment in the city’s future. He said it will provide a swimming and recreation center for children, adults, and seniors, while also boosting tourism.
“It’s going to be able to teach kids how to swim, a lot of schools that have swim teams, as well as our senior citizens, to be able to have a pool, as well as young people like me, they got the football room,” said McClendon. “It’s going to be a great kiddie pool all indoor door, but then it’s gonna have six basketball courts. It’s going to be interchangeable for wrestling, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, and boxing. The whole 9 yards, and it’s gonna bring in so much tourism…
