MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Despite a shooting and disturbance on Beale Street this weekend, Memphis’ police chief says crime is down in the first three months of 2026.
Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis on Tuesday presented numbers to the City Council through March 15 of this year showing lower numbers this year compared to the same periods in 2025 and 2024.

In January, for example, 1,915 Part 1 crimes were reported — that’s down from 3,709 a year earlier and 4,258 reports two years ago.
