The pre-dawn quiet at Canterbury Woods Apartments in northeast Memphis did not last long Tuesday, as a shooting call brought a heavy police response and wrapped the complex in crime-scene tape before sunrise.

Memphis police arrived just after 4 a.m., and residents reported seeing multiple patrol cars and investigators moving around the buildings and parking lots as officers secured the area.
