‘Worst audit’: Tennessee comptroller releases interim audit claiming millions in waste, abuse at MSCS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office released an interim audit Wednesday claiming $1.1 million in waste and abuse by Memphis-Shelby County Schools and another $1.7 million in contracts that may violate practices, but don’t rise to the level of waste and abuse.

The audit, which covers the years 2022-2024, includes over 300 pages of claims surrounding the management of Tennessee’s largest school system. The period examined spans three different leaders: Joris Ray, Toni Williams and Dr. Marie Feagins.
