Tennessee bill specifically targets Shelby County District Attorney

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Lawmakers in the Tennessee House are expected to vote as soon as Wednesday on a bill to audit and possibly replace Shelby County’s elected district attorney. House Bill 483 and its companion Senate Bill 443 would authorize the Tennessee Attorney General to audit how the district attorney in the thirtieth judicial district prosecutes cases.

The thirtieth district is Shelby County. The Senate bill is sponsored by Sen. Brent Taylor from Shelby County. The House version was filed by a lawmaker from Sevierville, Tennessee.

The bills state the purpose of the study is to “ensure the proper administration of justice necessary to protect the safety of the community and to provide accountability to the public.”…
