North Memphis bridge repairs to begin this summer, more than 2 years after truck crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A North Memphis bridge damaged by a big rig crash in April 2024 will not be repaired until July 2026, more than two years after the initial damage.

The James Road Bridge has been in critical condition since the crash. TDOT officials shut down a lane of traffic and placed a weight limit on the bridge after the Impact Team reported the damage.

TDOT officials were unaware of the damage until they received photos from the Impact Team. Inspectors found the superstructure to be in “Critical Condition” with “Advanced Deterioration.” Repairs were scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025 but did not start.
