Memphis man, mother sentenced in USPS robberies, bank fraud scheme

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man convicted of robbing U.S. Postal Service carriers at gunpoint and his mother have both been sentenced to federal prison, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee.

Federal officials say 25-year-old Marshun Lewis was sentenced on April 15 to 42 years in prison for a string of armed robberies targeting Memphis postal carriers between August 2023 and December 2024.

His mother, 46-year-old Lakita Carroll, was sentenced May 8 to three-and-a-half years in prison for her role in a conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

According to the attorney’s office, Lewis conducted the robberies of the USPS workers to obtain keys to unlock blue collection mailboxes throughout Memphis to steal checks and money orders, and would alter the payee information to deposit them into third-party accounts.
