Hiker rescued after showing signs of heat illness at Piestewa Peak

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Firefighters rescued a woman from Piestewa Peak early Saturday morning after she showed signs of heat-related illness.

Around 6 a.m., Phoenix fire crews were called to the popular hiking area in north Phoenix for reports of an ill hiker.

Rescue crews hiked about a quarter-mile up the trail and found a woman in her 30s suffering from symptoms including cramping, nausea and vomiting.

Firefighters placed her on a big wheel, a rescue stretcher designed for off-road terrain, and brought her down to an ambulance…
