Hottest day of the year expected Tuesday in Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today will likely be not only the hottest day this week, but the hottest day of the year so far. The forecast for Phoenix is 111 degrees this afternoon, which is 4 degrees shy of the daily record and 6 degrees above average.

Look for mostly sunny skies in the Valley. Storm chances will be down statewide today from what they were on Monday, including in the Valley. Look for a 10% or less chance of an isolated storm or shower today. In the mountains, that chance is near 20-30% at best.

Drier air will slowly take over the atmosphere the next few days, cutting storm chances and gradually lowering humidity levels. Temperatures are expected to stay slightly above average in the Valley, peaking near 108 degrees through Friday…
