Traffic stop escalates into police grappling reckless driver in Chandler

CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A traffic stop led to police chasing a reckless driver and grappling their vehicle in Chandler earlier this month.

Police say on June 5 around 10 p.m., a Chandler officers attempted to pull over a driver for a minor traffic violation near 116th Street and Riggs Road, east of Arizona Avenue. The driver reportedly refused to stop, and the officer alerted the department’s Street Crimes Unit to bring a grappler vehicle.

Officers witnessed the driver speeding, running red lights and passing in a no pass zone, according to authorities. An officer successfully deployed the grappler, stopping the reckless driver.
