When Arizona State wanted Jeremiah Johnson, his decision to cut short his high school graduation trip was an easy one. An international detour? No big deal.
A 2026 wide receiver who graduated from Rancho Mirage (Calif.) High School earlier this month, Johnson was with his girlfriend’s family in Puerto Vallarta last Wednesday when he checked his social media messages and was surprised by what he saw. Two ASU staff members had reached out via direct message on X/Twitter to express interest in Johnson, a Navy commit preparing to move to Maryland this summer.
“It’s probably the weirdest story in college football this week just how it came together,” Johnson said Sunday from Sky Harbor International Airport as he awaited his flight home to Palm Springs. “I was in Mexico [for] seven days. I was in the airport (at Puerto Vallarta, getting ready to go to Guadalajara). I had bought my plane tickets to Navy and everything. I check my Twitter and I have two requests, the head of recruiting, head of scouting and the other was the assistant wide receivers coach. ‘Hey Jeremiah, what’s your situation? I looked at the message, already committed. ‘Do they think I’m class of 2027? I was on my girlfriend’s phone. I’m about to jump on a plane.”…
