esa school district budget reflects $11.3M pupil decline hit

Mesa Public Schools’ proposed $515 million budget in the fiscal year that begins July 1 anticipates a loss of 2,400 students and includes two tax levies.

The Governing Board last week gave preliminary approval to the budget, which it is scheduled to adopt July 9.

“This proposed budget reflects a balance between meeting today’s needs and planning responsibility for the future,” said Tyler Moore, Chief Business officer at the June 25 meeting. “Over the past several months, we carefully validated enrollment trends, operational needs, long-term infrastructure priorities.

“We are already planning for fiscal ‘28 to continue our cadence of getting ahead and allowing time for the board to provide input into decisions regarding the budget well ahead of us getting to today.”…
