A massive interstate cargo theft ring was stopped dead in its tracks this week thanks to swift inter-agency communication and a couple of well-placed phone calls.
What started as a massive shipment stolen out of Texas quickly turned into a high-stakes game of highway hide-and-seek across Arizona. Fortunately for the rightful owners of the cargo, local law enforcement was completely dialed in to shut the operation down.
The I-40 and I-10 Takedown
The cross-jurisdictional bust kicked off when Detective Peery with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), successfully intercepted one of the stolen semi-trucks traveling along Interstate 40. Images shared from the scene reveal the recovered vehicle was hauling a massive, blue Amazon Prime cargo trailer.
Realizing there was a second truck unaccounted for, Detective Peery quickly reached out to Phoenix Police Sergeant Jeffrey Gordon to coordinate a secondary recovery further south. Gordon then contacted his close friend, Trooper Hamelton, to track down the fleeing vehicle.
