Phoenix Man Dies Mid-Block on 7th Avenue, Driver Fled Then Returned

An adult man died overnight after being struck by a car while walking mid-block near 7th Avenue and Osborn Road in Phoenix, according to police. The driver did not immediately stay at the scene, instead returning after arriving home and noticing damage to his vehicle, police officials said.

Phoenix police officers and fire crews were called to the crash scene at 7th Avenue and Osborn Road, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Police said the crash involved a car and an adult male pedestrian who was walking in the roadway mid-block when he was hit. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, per the police statement.

Investigators with the Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Unit are still working the case. Police have not identified the pedestrian, and his family has not yet been notified of his death, according to the same report.

Driver Returned After Spotting Damage at Home

According to police officials, the driver allegedly involved in the crash did not remain at the scene at the time of the collision. He instead returned to the location after arriving home and discovering damage to his car. Under Arizona Revised Statutes § 28-661, drivers involved in collisions resulting in injury or death are required to stop immediately or immediately return to the scene and render aid, with failure to do so classified as a felony under state law…
