Arizona’s blues scene has lost a beloved musician and influential figure. Carvin Jones, the veteran guitarist and prolific performer whose electrified sound lit up venues throughout the Phoenix area and around the world, died Sunday from cancer. He was 60.
Jones’ family announced his death Monday through his Facebook page. “It is with immeasurable sadness that we share that Corvin Keith Anthony Jones, known to his family and friends around the world as Carvin Jones, the ‘King of Strings,’ passed away in the early morning of September 20,” the statement read in part.
Jones was a prominent figure in Arizona blues. Bob Corritore, owner of Phoenix club The Rhythm Room, says Jones was “beloved in Phoenix and around the world.”…
