A multi-agency operation carried out by the Homeland Security Task Force has broken up a Kansas drug ring tied to the Sinaloa Cartel, leading to guilty pleas from ringleader Euriel Talavera and 14 other defendants.
Court records show the probe launched in December 2022 when the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Wichita Police Department began tracking a local distribution network. The group was managed by associates of the Sinaloa Cartel and moved fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine into the region.
Investigators found that members of the crew drove from Wichita to Phoenix, Arizona, and other hubs every few weeks. They picked up bulk shipments of narcotics, brought them back to Kansas, and sold them on the street.
