Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) will host an ‘Empty the Shelters’ event from February 7-11, 2024. Adoption fees for dogs aged six months and older will be waived. The BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors the event, which is only in Maricopa County. Kim Powell, Communications Supervisor for MCACC, is enthusiastic about the adoption event. It aims to help animals find homes before Valentine’s Day. She thanked the BISSELL Pet Foundation for their ongoing support in addressing pet homelessness.

MCACC has received over 1,600 animals since the start of the year, with more than 800 dogs currently needing homes. The organization hopes the ‘Empty the Shelters’ Adoption Event will help many dogs find homes. The event will be held at the MCACC West Shelter, East Shelter, and Heidi’s Village.

The ‘Empty the Shelters’ event, started by the BISSELL Pet Foundation in 2016, is the biggest adoption event in the country. It encourages families to adopt. Since it began, over 204,000 pets have found homes. The program works with 730 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada to lower adoption fees.
