Suspected serial arsonist arrested after string of fires in eastern Arizona

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – The man suspected in a series of arson fires in eastern Arizona was found in the Valley, the Apache County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday. Joaquine Jeremia Martinez was taken into custody on Feb. 7 in the area of Lindsay and McDowell roads in Mesa. It’s unclear if he lives at that home. ACSO said deputies arrested the 24-year-old with the help of the Mesa Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Task Force. He was then extradited and is now in an Apache County jail. The Vernon Fire District said Martinez is responsible for starting six fires in the Vernon area since December.
