Shooting involving Mesa police leaves man hospitalized

MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – A man has been hospitalized after being shot by Mesa police officers early Friday morning. According to Brandi Myers with Mesa Police Department, around 8:30 a.m., officers received information about a stolen vehicle out of Tempe that may have been in the Mesa area. The vehicle had a GPS tracker in it, and authorities located it on Mahoney Avenue, near Stapley Drive and Main Street. Myers said no one was inside the vehicle when it was found outside of a home. However, authorities said a 25-year-old man then came out of the house and went toward the stolen car. This is when two officers fired shots at the man, according to Mesa police. Authorities said a knife was located near the man, but it’s unknown if it was his.
