Chandler vice mayor named chair of Valley transportation board

Chandler Vice Mayor and City Council member O.D. Harris has been named Chair of the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority  Board of Directors through June 2025, according to a news release.

The 19 RPTA board members representing cities, towns and Maricopa County guide and set policy for the regional transportation agency that provides bus, paratransit and vanpool services in the metropolitan Phoenix area.

Harris has represented Chandler on the Valley Metro RPTA Board of Directors and Valley Metro Rail Board of Directors since January 2023.

“Chandler’s quality of life and economic development have been greatly enhanced by long-ranging planning and investments in transportation,” Harris said in the release. “This appointment is a great opportunity to work with my colleagues in the region to advance transit planning and services for our communities.”

Harris began serving on the Chandler City Council in January 2021 and voters recently re-elected him to a second term on the City Council. He also serves as the National League of Cities representative on the Institute for Building Technology and Safety Board of Directors.
