Mesa police make arrest in gas station shooting death

Mesa police arrested 44-year-old Andrew Rada on Tuesday after a shooting at a gas station left another person dead.

According to a Mesa police statement, witnesses reported seeing Rada at an ARCO gas station near McKellips Road and Center Street, shooting a rifle into the street.

Before officers arrived, witnesses said Rada fled in a burgundy Dodge Ram truck.

Police later found 52-year-old Michelle Flippin dead from gunshot wounds at a bus stop just south of the gas station.

Using Mesa Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center, police located Rada’s vehicle and pulled him over later that day.

Rada claimed to officers that he shot Flippin because she was waving a gun, but police said no weapon was found on Flippin, according to the statement.

Rada was arrested and booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder charges.
