Phoenix police say a toddler was hospitalized on the afternoon of Oct. 19 with what appeared to be an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sgt. Phil Krynsky, a department spokesperson, said the child was hospitalized and remained in stable condition as of the afternoon of Oct. 20.
Krynsky said police detained a teenager, who was taken to the Juvenile Court Center and referred for one count of endangerment and one count of a minor possessing a firearm — both felonies. Krynsky didn’t offer additional details regarding the nature of the toddler’s injuries.
It was not immediately clear if the two were related, or how the teen came into possession of a firearm.
