The Goodyear Police Department’s K9 team earned recognition at the 21st Desert Dog Police K9 Trials & Public Safety Expo, held at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
The competition, the largest of its kind in the country, featured 70 K9 teams from across the United States competing in a variety of challenges that tested their skills in detection, search and rescue, obedience, and tactical response.
Goodyear’s Officer Zack Rapaich and K9 Bubba took 1st place in the Building Search event. This challenge involved locating individuals and items in unfamiliar environments, and the Goodyear team’s performance helped them secure the top spot in this offsite competition.
The Desert Dog Trials, organized by the Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association, provided law enforcement K9 teams with an opportunity to compete in a series of events that simulate real-world situations. Categories included Narcotics Detection, Explosives Ordinance Detection, and Tactical Obedience, among others.
The Role of Police Dogs in Law Enforcement Police K9 teams are an integral part of modern law enforcement, with dogs trained to assist in a variety of specialized tasks. Their work includes narcotics and explosives detection, tracking criminals, search and rescue, and providing assistance during high-risk operations.
