Chandler business ‘Legend’ passes away

Mike Hegland, a musician and Elvis impersonator who founded and co-owned Legends Showcase Bar & Grill in Chandler, passed away in early November. He was 68.

Hegeland and his wife, Sherry Chen,  started Legends after selling their popular Asian restaurant Singing Pandas — a Chandler Boulevard venue where their lounge acts and other live stage shows drew large audiences.

Praise for Hegeland and his and Chen’s enterprises abound.  There was even praise from the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

“The Chamber is deeply saddened by the loss of Mike Hegland, a talented musician, beloved Elvis impersonator, and co-founder,” the Chamber wrote on its Facebook page. “Mike brought joy to so many, first with his vibrant shows at Singing Pandas and most recently at Legends. His passion for entertainment and his love for this community were truly unmatched. As we remember Mike, we celebrate the light he brought to every stage he graced.”

A celebration of life for Hegeland was set to be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler in late November.
