Man driving stolen car dead after Glendale crash, family in the car he hit hospitalized

A man driving a stolen car died after colliding with another vehicle near 67th and Alice avenues in Glendale, the Glendale Police Department confirmed.

Just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a male driver and a female passenger, both in their 20s, were heading northbound on 67th Avenue. According to Glendale police, they were traveling at a high rate of speed in a stolen black 2014 Honda Civic without the headlights on.

A 49-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Highlander with her two young grandchildren in the vehicle, ages 6 and 12, according to Glendale police. She was turning southbound onto 67th Avenue from Alice Avenue and didn’t see the Civic driving northbound.

Glendale police said the man in the stolen Civic attempted to swerve left, but crashed into the front corner of the Highlander.

The woman and her grandchildren were hit with so much force that their vehicle rotated clockwise and came to a stop over 30 feet north of the intersection, according to Glendale police. The Civic rotated clockwise and ended up on the west side of the roadway.
