PHOENIX — What began as a protest against federal immigration laws quickly escalated into chaos at intersections in Glendale and Phoenix on Sunday and Monday nights. Over the past two nights, demonstrators engaged in dangerous behavior, including performing doughnuts, lighting illegal fireworks, and throwing rocks at police officers.
A former Arizona police chief is urging local authorities to reconsider how they handle these types of demonstrations. Specifically, he suggests that Phoenix and Glendale police should reassess how long they wait before declaring an unlawful assembly and clearing the streets.
