Drivers in the Valley are gearing up for a weekend filled with construction-related closures and detours, as crews set out to work on several major freeways. According to information from the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), significant roadway work is slated to begin Friday evening and will run through Monday morning, impacting Interstate 10, State Route 143, and US 60, among others. The closures aim to facilitate pavement sealing and the progress of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

Beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday, westbound I-10 will be shut down between 35th and 83rd avenues, reopening at 2 p.m. Saturday. Subsequently, the same stretch of eastbound I-10 is expected to close from 9:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 p.m. Sunday. ADOT advises drivers to consider using McDowell Road as a detour. These closures signify an effort by the state to ongoingly improve roadway surfaces, a necessary inconvenience to hopefully foster a smoother travel experience down the line. With these guidelines in place, ADOT is urging travelers to plan accordingly and to prepare for an increased need to navigate detours.
Additionally, as reported by KTAR, northbound SR 143, also known as the Hohokam Expressway, will be entirely closed from I-10 to Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The closure is scheduled from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 a.m. Monday.
